“At the end, all market should keep making magic”
In this final project, Viviana using the colombian figure of culebrero (storyteller-witchdoctor) aims to combine the notions of magic, myth, and game from the creation of various artistic objects. After several weeks went to different type of market in Jakarta. She charged around sniffing flowers, appraising fish, listening to buskers, tasting particular character, glancing at second hand goods and savoring the gourmets. It was a sensory riot. She spent days in the market, met people and heard history and chatter.
After several visit, Viviana decide to explore more the toys market in Asemka and second-hand market in Jatinegara. She is fascinated by the concept of market these days are having the value of similarity in the contemporary world. Viviana stated that we can find identical ideas of clothing, branding, and sometimes ideas of the commodities. While he explore the flea market, she’s also curious about how people sell magic treat (spells, rings, tricks) and how this deal works in everyday life. However, in Jakarta she found the ingenuity in Morning Cake Market, she realize that we still find it the origin of one city by cuisine.
Combining the myth and goods as the proposal of the project, Viviana will provide visitors with a playful meeting place, a space for creation and discovery. She asks the visitor to bring and trade all the magical objects and zines making to be exhibited in C-ZINE festival in Columbia. And so, while cutting and sticking tiny pieces of paper, this presentation will also brighten up by an artist collective Cut and Rescue as a collaborator to create screen printing demo, Ika Vantiani with her collage art & craft stuff, Junk Not Dead with their sewing-knitting-crocheting goods, and Enomonsta with her colorful monster dolls!
This soiree will have a wide range of friends to take part in this performative presentation. At the heart of this unusual market, artists will present objects and cobbled together, trade the masterpieces or create participative zines.
