An intuitive and KLA winning author, Afrizal Malna, has touched many hearts and souls through his books which mainly based on “his bodily encountered with the urban space” –wrote Andy Fuller in his critical investigation in the East-Asian contemporary literature.

Afrizalnewest and most precious novel yet thoughtfully written, “KepadaApakah”/ “On What” will be launched in ruangrupa, March 12th 2014. The novel told about a guy named Ram and his personal relationship. Ram was an actor as well as one of a student in the philosophy department in Driyarkara School of Philosophy. A leading, clairvoyant and yet full of socio-cultural inauguration making it possible to hit any single part of our unconscious –the history from the outsiderperspective.

This event will host Afrizal in an open discussion and debates about his genuine work, and a short knowledge about his book will be deliberated by a young writer from Remotivi and Indoprogress, Berto Tukan and also an international performance artist, Melati Suryodarmo.
This discussion demands an interdisciplinary study about the works.

About the Author: Afrizal, now in his mid-50s, is highly industrious: he writes around the clock, he travels regularly throughout Indonesia for seminars, readings and festivals, and when not working on a new collection of poems, he is revising older works, or having essays published in Kompas, a daily national newspaper. In 2012, Afrizal had residencies in Poland, at Platform Lublin, and at DAAD in Berlin. His most recently published book of poems is museum penghancur dokumen. In 2014, he will return to Berlin for a year-long residency. During the 1980s and 1990s he was active with Teater Sae. For a period in the 1990s, he was affiliated with the activist group ‘Urban Poor Consortium in Jakarta’. Despite this degree of activism, as a writer and poet, Afrizal remains relatively neutral in terms of Indonesia’s often polarised literary communities.
